Westword review of ‘Cough Up Your Teeth’

Cory Casciato // Westword

In five short, slashing songs, Lion Sized has created a classic punk-rock release for people who hate punk rock — or hate what it’s become, anyway. It’s tempting to call it post-punk as a nod to its intelligence, but that’s just because we’ve (mostly) forgotten how fucking smart punk can actually be. This is the real deal — raw, emotional and visceral without ever dumbing itself down. Just try to deny either the greatness or intelligence of “Carmel” or “Hey Proletariat!” or, hell, any of it. It’s a throwback to a simpler time, when punk was seen as the last great hope for rock and roll. If that promise had come true, bands like Lion Sized would be the norm. Since it didn’t, cherish these guys all the more.

Cough Up Your Teeth EP

Thanks to everyone who came to our EP release show Saturday. It was great to see everyone and we hope you enjoyed the night as much as we did. We’re really fortunate to have so many supportive friends and to be able to share the stage with great bands like Glass Hits and Accordion Crimes. We’re looking forward to playing the Westword Showcase and the UMS again this summer. We also have a couple of other events in the works … more on that later.

The Cough Up Your Teeth EP is now available digitally from NoiseTrade, iTunes, and Amazon. We’ll continue to have copies of the EP available at shows and at local record stores until we run out. The versions with Rob on the cover are going fast. The dude is popular.
